Ansible Motion Launches Theta Cube Sport

The all-new Theta Cube Sport brings the realism of large, permanently installed systems into a self-contained, transportable and turnkey package that enables true engineering-class DIL simulation in a compact, self-contained package. Following recently publicised deployments of Theta Seat Sport driving simulators, the reveal of the new Theta Cube Sport marks the official launch of Ansible Motion’s new Sport DIL simulator product line, which spans its Delta, Sigma and Theta driving simulator series. With the first example already deployed to a confidential Ansible Motion motorsport customer, the new Theta Cube Sport is designed, engineered and built at Ansible Motion’s headquarters in Hethel, England, and joins the company’s growing list of products specifically designed for competition car manufacturers and teams worldwide, covering disciplines such as FE, WEC, WRC, NASCAR and IndyCar. Dan Clark, Ansible Motion’s managing director, comments: “Theta Cube Sport is a leap forward for compact, transportable motorsport simulators. It delivers a comprehensive, engineering-class DIL experience in a lightweight, fully enclosed form factor that’s quick to install, operate and connect to external simulation environments. With compatibility across our multi-sim ecosystem and support for full vehicle and driver immersion systems, it offers motorsport customers a unique, engineering-grade, future-proof solution.”

Design and Immersion Features of Theta Cube Sport

Design and Immersion Features of Theta Cube Sport

The Theta Cube Sport is an all-new, comprehensive, ground-up reimagining of Ansible Motion’s renowned Theta Cube DIL simulator, delivering a transportable, 2.5m³ self-contained virtual test-driving solution, specifically configured for motorsports applications. It offers true turnkey simulation capability and seamless integration with Ansible Motion’s software, visual, audio and loading systems, plus seamless connectivity with external Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) systems. Despite its compact footprint, the Theta Cube Sport integrates a full suite of sensory feedback and immersion systems, including a reconfigurable race car cockpit and dash environment, including an adjustable racing seat, pedals and multi-function steering wheel, which can be made bespoke or delivered from standard option selections. The Theta Cube Sport is extremely lightweight at just 800 kilograms in total – a full 300-kilogram reduction from the standard Theta Cube and requiring just four single-phase power connections. With an integrated mini operator station with spectator screen, supplementary support, and live data monitoring can be accessed by an operator, or the entire system can be operated by the driver within it. Mechanically, the Theta Cube Sport features a plinth-based driver-surround cassette that is common with Theta Seat Sport, thus providing scalability and cross-simulator compatibility. Alongside haptic and torque feedback for the steering, a full racing harness with optional Ansible Motion Seat Belt Loading System (AML SBLS) and optional Helmet Loading System (AML HLS) delivers longitudinal acceleration cueing and split left/right cueing.

Integration, Software, and Competitive Advantage

Integration, Software, and Competitive Advantage

Designed to integrate directly with other downstream and parallel Theta DIL simulator option packs and with upstream systems in Sigma and Delta series DIL simulators, Theta Cube Sport provides a seamless upgrade path and multi-feature compatibility with all Ansible Motion Sport simulators, allowing racing teams to transition between static and dynamic configurations without compromise, and with the assurance of plug-and-play compatibility. In brief, Theta Cube Sport is a scalable, cross-simulator bridge between all Ansible Motion static and dynamic Sport simulators, including multi-sim suites. For a simulator to deliver truly accurate results, it must convince drivers that they are interacting with real vehicles, facing real driving situations and scenarios. This level of immersion is essential not just for driver acclimatisation, but for producing accurate behavioural and physiological responses that feed directly into engineering and setup decisions. By replicating the full spectrum of sensory inputs – from what the driver sees and hears to what they feel through the steering, pedals and seat – Theta Cube Sport creates a natural, convincing environment where realistic virtual test-driving sessions can occur. Theta Cube Sport’s contained environment enables the inclusion of a bespoke multi-projection vision system, offering a 180-degree horizontal screen wrap, 1.2-metre image height and 2,900 lumens brightness, which delivers class-leading visual immersion with zero content buffering or delay, making it unique among compact static simulators. Thanks to image processing power from high-performance image generation PCs with NVIDIA RTX 4090 graphics cards, seamless image warp and blend technology, and engineering-grade graphics tools from rFpro – Ansible Motion’s sister company – the world’s most realistic visual simulation environments can be generated and rendered within Theta Cube Sport. Its fully-enclosed hard-shell structure – which features a sophisticated ventilation system – blocks out ambient light and sound, creating an entirely immersive environment. A complete audio system is also integrated, so realistic simulation audio cues and external communications can be provided to the driver. This system includes a modular audio rack, digital mixer, along with an attached stage box and amplifier, which provides for mixing various inputs and outputs such as simulation audio - e.g. vehicle powertrain and environmental sound effects - and driver-operator communications. Full compatibility with Ansible Motion’s unique multi-simulator ecosystem allows for connected, multi-driver, multi-vehicle simulation across linked static and dynamic Ansible Motion simulators for next-level, interactive realism. As there is no substitute for human drivers when it comes to simulating highly realistic race scenarios, such as the physical vehicle effects of running in traffic, thus the multi-simulator capability creates unique simulation programme opportunities for developing race car setups and energy management strategies. Theta Cube Sport’s steering control and feedback is provided by Ansible Motion’s venerable Hand Wheel Loading System (AML HWLS), which delivers best-in-class latency, accurate torque response, high torque capability, along with high accuracy and low ripple. Ansible Motion’s High Frequency Actuator array (AML HFA) provides haptic feedback to the driver through the steering system and other contact points. Ansible Motion’s Pedal Loading System (AML PLS) – which can be configured as a 2-pedal or 3-pedal, fully-adjustable box system – offers DIL-configured pedal emulators that provide users with force/displacement mapping adjustments, and the required force and displacement sensors. From high-fidelity rendering to real-time data flow and system integration, Theta Cube Sport is engineered to support advanced vehicle development workflows. Whether feeding live data to engineers, synchronising with external modelling tools, or enabling accurate scenario playbacks, the simulator’s underlying architecture provides the speed, openness, reconfigurability and analytical depth that today’s motorsport teams demand. Ansible Motion’s compact Data Acquisition Unit (AML DAQ), designed specifically for in-cabin use in DIL simulators, allows for multi-channel analogue and digital I/O and provides multiple open customer channel ports. Meanwhile, Ansible Motion’s dynamics-class Distributed Data Bus (AML DDB) provides synchronous co-simulation across all hardware and software systems, including bespoke customer systems, external test benches and real-time capable vehicle modelling tools. If users desire, customer-preferred data acquisition and analysis tools can be easily integrated, or Ansible Motion can include a recommended suite of data streaming and logging applications that will connect to AML DDB to provide viewing, analysis and logging of simulation parameters.
