On June 28, basketball superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo drew a crowd at a street-party-themed cocktail event in his hometown of Athens, Greece. The Breitling all-star squad member recently launched a new collaboration with the Swiss watch brand: the Giannis Antetokounmpo Signature Chronomat watch.
NBA legend Giannis Antetokounmpo shared the stage with Breitling CEO Georges Kern for an informal chat in the presence of local celebrities, friends of the brand, and members of the press. Emceeing the event was Greek star chef and Breitling ambassador Sotiris Kontizas, co-host of MasterChef Greece. A DJ performance and cocktail event cumulated in a street-party vibe at which partygoers were invited to throw hoops to win a basketball signed by the 2-meter-11 (6′9″) Milwaukee Bucks power forward. During the event, artist Same84 created a live mural of Antetokounmpo.
“We love the infectious energy Giannis has brought not only to our campaigns, but also to his input on our limited-edition Signature Chronomat,” says Breitling CEO Georges Kern. “These watches capture his easygoing personal style and inspiring journey from the street courts of Athens to the height of the NBA. They’re a continuation of Breitling’s long history of supplying timepieces to sportspeople everywhere.
”The Giannis Antetokounmpo Signature Chronomat comes in two variations: a 40-mm steel Chronomat GMT (limited to 1750 pieces) and a 42-mm gold Chronomat B01 Chronograph (250 pieces). Giannis-centric details include a “GA” monogram on the central hand counterpoint, a basketball emblem worked into the small-seconds subdial, and a dial shade
matched to the good-land green of the star’s team, with whom he won the NBA championship in 2021. The chronograph comes on a green rubber Rouleaux strap or a 18k red gold bracelet. The rubber Rouleaux strap is a recent addition to the Chronomat lineup, an alternative to the classic metal bracelet designed to be streamlined, water resistant, and sporty. Antetokounmpo’s signature is engraved onto the GMT caseback, and both watches come in special-edition Giannis Antetokounmpo packaging along with a note from the “Greek Freak” himself.
For the event, Antetokounmpo sported an even more limited edition: a custom “One of One” in gold with the Bucks colors on its dial and golden numerals in Arabic.
“Launching our Chronomat collaboration at the Breitling boutique in my home city was as much fun as co-designing the watch,” says Antetokounmpo. “I’m grateful to Breitling for the chance to put my personal stamp on this watch and thrilled to see so many people come out tonight to check it out.”
