The MICHELIN Guide Kyoto and Osaka has just celebrated its 15th anniversary in style, unveiling its 2024 edition with a splash at a dazzling event in Kyoto. This year's guide boasts a record-breaking 440 recommended restaurants, spreading across the vibrant cities of Kyoto and Osaka. Let's dive into what makes this edition so special.

This anniversary edition isn't just about celebrating the past; it's about spotlighting the burgeoning future of the culinary scene in these two historic cities. From the addition of new stars to recognizing sustainable dining practices, there's plenty to explore.

In the spotlight, this year is Yugen in Osaka, which has just ascended from one to two MICHELIN stars, thanks to its sublime menu that includes stewed delicacies and a dashi that sings with umami from kombu kelp. The guide now lists 27 two-star establishments and celebrates the sustained excellence of eight three-star titans like Kikunoi Honten and Hyotei, which have held their three stars for 15 consecutive years.
