Candela Debuts P-12 Voyager, Its Flagship Electric Foiling Vessel for Luxury Travel

  • What makes the Candela P-12 Voyager different from traditional boats?
  • How efficient and eco-friendly is the Candela P-12 Voyager?

"For decades, luxury at sea has primarily been about interior design and onboard amenities," said Gabriele De Mattia, Senior Product Manager at Candela. "With the P-12 Voyager, we've engineered luxury into the ride itself. The technology eliminates the discomforts traditionally associated with high-speed water transport."

Built on Candela's revolutionary P-12 platform, the Voyager pairs a luxurious lounge-style interior with the hydrofoil experience, which many passengers describe as a "magic carpet ride" above the water.

Unlike conventional fast passenger boats that pound through waves, generating noise and vibration, the new Candela P-12 Voyager flies smoothly above the surface on computer-controlled hydrofoils. Candela's flight controller continuously adjusts the foils 100 times per second, delivering an exceptionally calm ride while dramatically reducing motion and vibration.

The P-12 Voyager accommodates up to 12 passengers in a spacious, climate-controlled cabin featuring panoramic windows, lounge-style seating, a refreshment station, generous luggage compartments, and a restroom. The vessel is purpose-built for routes where passenger experience is as important as travel time, including airport-to-resort transfers, luxury hospitality services, and other commuter connections.

Operating at speeds of 25 knots while foiling, the Voyager maintains cabin noise levels of just 63 dB - quieter than a modern express train or a first-class flight. Thanks to its hydrofoils, which reduce energy consumption by up to 80% compared to conventional vessels, it offers a range of up to 40 nautical miles on battery power, enabling the electrification of longer routes that were previously only feasible with fossil-fuel-powered speedboats and ferries.

Beyond passenger comfort, the Voyager offers operators a compelling reason to transition to electric fleets, as the low energy usage also results in substantially lower operating costs. Thanks to its ability to recharge from 20% to 80% in as little as one hour using a standard dual 150 kW CCS charging system, similar to those used by electric cars, and its ability to dock at both low jetties and high quays, operators can avoid costly investments in specialized shoreside infrastructure.

When flying, the P-12 creates only a very small wake, which, together with its extremely low noise levels, minimizes its impact on marine life and surrounding communities. Fully electric, it produces no local emissions and eliminates the risk of fuel and oil pollution in the waterways it serves.

The P-12 Voyager is the flagship model of the P-12 platform, complementing the P-12 Shuttle (efficient commuting for up to 30 passengers), already in public transport service in Candela's hometown of Stockholm, and the P-12 Business (premium hospitality transfers for up to 20 passengers).

The Candela P-12 Voyager is engineered in Sweden and is in serial production at Candela’s Stockholm based factory, with customer deliveries starting later in 2026.
