Acer unveiled a laptop that feels almost unreal: the Swift Air 16. At just 990g, this 16-inch ultraportable challenges expectations of size, weight, and strength while promising a balance of design and performance.
The laptop weighs under 1kg thanks to a magnesium-aluminium alloy shell. Despite its light build, it feels sturdy and reliable for daily use. At 15.9mm thin, the IPS model remains sleek and portable, while the OLED version is slightly heavier at 1.09kg but still impressively slim.
Users can pick between a 16-inch 1920x1200 IPS display at 60Hz or a premium 2880x1800 OLED panel with 120Hz refresh. Both options deliver sharp visuals, but the OLED model adds a touch of luxury, ideal for those who prioritize deeper colors and smoother graphics.
The Swift Air 16 runs on AMD Ryzen AI 5 and AI 7 processors, paired with Radeon integrated graphics. It supports up to 32GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD storage, making it powerful enough for multitasking, creative tasks, and smooth everyday performance.
The laptop includes a wide range of ports, from USB-C and USB-A to HDMI, plus Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4 support. It also carries an IR webcam for Windows Hello face login, quad speakers for audio, and a keyboard and touchpad that deliver a comfortable user experience.
Acer claims 11 hours of video playback from the 50Wh battery, which is less than some competitors offering 15-20 hours. Still, for users who value a large 16-inch display in a machine weighing less than a kilogram, this compromise might be worth it. The Swift Air 16 looks set to stand out as a bold new option in the ultraportable market.
