  • How did Germany secure victory at the Rolex Switzerland Sail Grand Prix?

Testing light-wind conditions on Lake Geneva created a dramatic start to the final day. After a long pause between the first and second races on day two, the wind picked up, with the three finalists – Germany, BONDS Flying Roos (Australia), and home team Switzerland – going head-to-head in the all-important showdown. Germany kept their composure, executing a perfect start to take the early lead. After rounding mark one, they fell off their foils, allowing Tom Slingsby’s BONDS Flying Roos to close the gap. Germany quickly recovered and, back up on the foils, held off the Australian challenge to claim a hard-fought and memorable victory. The triumph completes a remarkable comeback for Germany, who were hit with an unprecedented 12-point penalty at the start of Season 2025, and now stand tall as event winners. "It feels amazing – a little bit shocking as well, but surprisingly good," Heil said after guiding Germany to glory at the Rolex Switzerland Sail Grand Prix. "I think we had a good situation after the start, but I felt like I had a bit of pressure with the people behind us foiling. It’s a very good time for the team to get some success, we’ve worked really hard and it’s really cool.” Despite having to settle for a runner-up finish, there was still plenty to celebrate onboard the BONDS Flying Roos’ F50 as they returned to the top of overall season standings with Emirates GBR in second and Black Foils (New Zealand) in third. The penultimate event of the season, the DP World Spain Sail Grand Prix | Andalucía - Cádiz, will take place on October 4–5, before the season culminates in the winner-takes-all, three-boat, USD $2 million showdown at the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Sail Grand Prix 2025 Season Grand Final on November 29–30.
