: Baros, the Maldives icon renowned for its timeless elegance and authentic spirit, is honouring the 20th anniversary of its signature overwater dining destination, The Lighthouse Restaurant and Lounge.
The Lighthouse will mark its 20th anniversary on Friday 26 December with a special celebration, exactly two decades since it opened.
Guests will be welcomed with a cocktail reception in the Palm Garden, featuring a live performance by a talented trio of young, Maldivian musicians and synchronized, live painting by celebrated local artist Ahmed “Andhu” Nimad. The evening continues with an exclusive degustation dinner at The Lighthouse, showcasing the restaurant’s signature gastronomic offerings and the finest in seasonal flavours.
Instantly recognisable by its sculptural white sail, The Lighthouse was designed by renowned Maldivian architect Mohamed Shafeeq. As the first two-storey structure ever built over water in the Maldives, it marked a bold architectural milestone when it opened in 2005. Over the years, it has become synonymous with Baros, and today, remains one of the most distinctive and sought-after dining experiences in the archipelago.
“The Lighthouse is more than a restaurant – it is a symbol of Baros,” says Ibrahim Shijah, General Manager of Baros Maldives. “For 20 years, it has set the standard for intimate, elegant dining in the Maldives, rooted in genuine hospitality and a sense of place. We are honoured to celebrate this milestone with our guests from around the world.”
The Lighthouse has long been celebrated for its thoughtful blend of French culinary expertise, Maldivian flavors and Asian influence. World-class cuisine is served with effortless sophistication as guests dine above the ocean. Signature dishes, such as Flambéed Lobster Bisque, Salmon Stroganoff and Fruit Flambée remain guest favorites for their tableside theatre and depth of flavor.
“Our cooking philosophy centers on purity and craftsmanship,” adds Executive Chef Ken Gundu. “We source the finest ingredients and prepare them using methods that highlight their natural character. Paired with thoughtful service, each plate at The Lighthouse is designed to be an experience, not just a meal.”
Highlights from the current menu include:
The Lighthouse is refined yet relaxed, soulful yet stylish. Its grape cellar is also considered one of the most thoughtfully curated in the Maldives, featuring vintages from Burgundy to Barossa and guided pairings from Baros’ resident sommelier.
As Baros celebrates more than 50 years of hospitality, The Lighthouse continues to evolve, honoring tradition while embracing new culinary creativity. “The Lighthouse has shaped how luxury travelers experience dining in the Maldives,” adds Shijah. “As its legacy continues, we look forward to welcoming both first-time guests and returning friends to celebrate with us.”
