  • How does The Langham, Custom House, Bangkok blend historic architecture with modern luxury experiences?

Rising once more on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, one of Bangkok’s most storied landmarks is preparing for a new chapter. Scheduled to open in 2026, The Langham, Custom House, Bangkok will reimagine a heritage icon as a contemporary retreat, fusing architectural grandeur with the refined hospitality for which Langham is celebrated worldwide.

The Langham Custom House Bangkok: Heritage Meets Luxury

The Langham Custom House Bangkok: Heritage Meets Luxury

The historic Customs House, constructed in 1888 and long regarded as a gateway to Siam, is undergoing a meticulous restoration that honours its neo-Palladian design while reintroducing it as the centrepiece of an elegant riverside hotel. Within this cultural landmark and its adjoining structures, The Langham will unveil a series of experiences that balance heritage with modern sophistication. Guests will discover the acclaimed T’ang Court, the three-Michelin-star Cantonese restaurant from The Langham, Hong Kong, alongside a destination bar, an artisanal pâtisserie, and the holistic therapies of Chuan Spa, the Group’s celebrated wellness concept. A newly built wing overlooking the river will offer seventy-eight guestrooms, designed to provide an atmosphere of discreet luxury that complements the restored site. With its location in the Bang Rak District, the hotel is poised to contribute to the transformation of one of Bangkok’s most culturally significant neighbourhoods. Once home to royal celebrations and the heartbeat of international trade, the area is now evolving into a vibrant hub where history and modernity coexist. The arrival of The Langham, Custom House, Bangkok will further this evolution, bringing new energy and renewed cultural resonance to the riverside. The appointment of seasoned hotelier Nick Downing as General Manager signals the intent behind the project. Recognised for shaping some of the region’s most distinctive hotels into acclaimed destinations, he will lead the property’s opening and position it as one of Asia’s most desirable luxury addresses. “Travellers from the Gulf region are among the most valuable to Thailand’s tourism market, with average spending of around US$3,200 per person and longer stays of 10 to 14 days,” says Nick Downing, General Manager of The Langham, Custom House, Bangkok. “This aligns with the kind of luxury experience we are creating here; one that is immersive, refined, and deeply connected to its location. We very much look forward to welcoming guests from the GCC and offering them a riverside retreat that feels both contemporary and authentically Bangkok.” For Langham Hospitality Group, the project continues a global legacy of restoring historic landmarks into exceptional destinations, from London and Boston to Chicago and Pasadena. In Bangkok, that legacy takes the form of a riverside sanctuary where the echoes of the past meet the promise of a modern metropolis.
