FN Designs presents Home, Again, a deeply personal and immersive exhibition by visual artist Sahar Ghavami. Rooted in memory, imagination, and emotional resilience, the exhibition unfolds as a reflection on love, loss, and the longing for connection, expressed through fantastical, childlike worlds where fantasy and reality gently dissolve.
Sahar Ghavami holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Education, a dual foundation that informs her narrative-driven practice. Over the past eight years, her work has been exhibited across the United Arab Emirates and internationally, including Expo 2020 Dubai, the Musée International du Carnaval et du Masque in Binche, and ,Kunstroute Leuven. Her work stands out for its narrative depth, emotional clarity and ability to translate deeply personal experience into a universal visual language.
Home, Again emerges from a pivotal moment in the artist’s life, reflecting on her childhood experiences and upbringing in the UAE. Sahar grew up in a household where rescued animals such as cats, dogs, birds, turtles, goats, and were ever-present. They were not simply pets, but her earliest experience of an unconditional form of love and care. That bond was profoundly disrupted following an unfortunate severe autoimmune illness that nearly claimed her life. While Sahar survived, the autoimmune illness left her with extreme allergies, making physical closeness with animals no longer possible. Growing up in the care and companionship of creatures in need, the absence became a quiet and constant ache, that is now expressed through her art.
Reflecting on the exhibition, Ghavami says: “Each painting builds a world where my inner child and my animals can coexist again, a safe space shaped by healing, imagination, and emotional truth. These works are my homage to them.”
Drawing inspiration from the Superflat movement, Home, Again dissolves boundaries between fantasy and reality. Sahar’s visual language embraces flattened compositions, bold outlines, and the intuitive logic of childhood drawings. Within these imagined spaces, her inner child and animal companions reunite, crafting gentle refuges shaped by color, softness and emotional truth.
Curated as an immersive experience, the exhibition extends beyond the walls of the paintings. It transforms the preview space into a reimagining of the artist’s childhood bedroom and features a nostalgic UAE-style baqalastocked with familiar snacks from her upbringing. These elements ground the exhibition in lived experience, blurring the line between personal memory and collective nostalgia.
Across her art, Sahar resists being defined by geography alone, instead focusing on emotions that resonate universally, longing, play, vulnerability, and resilience. Home, Again stands as both an homage and an offering: a return to childhood not as it was, but as it is remembered, reimagined, and reclaimed.
