After years of user requests and speculation, Meta has officially released a dedicated WhatsApp app for iPad. More than 15 years after both the iPad and WhatsApp first launched, the messaging giant finally arrives on Apple’s tablet with a native experience designed for modern multitasking. Whether for work, travel, or staying connected across devices, this new app delivers smoother performance and smarter functionality all on the iPad’s larger screen.
The new WhatsApp for iPad fully supports iPadOS features like Stage Manager, Split View, and Slide Over, allowing users to multitask without switching apps. The interface mirrors Apple’s Messages app with a two-column layout: chats and contacts on the left, conversations on the right. It’s designed for productivity and comfort ideal for those who like keeping chats open while browsing, watching videos, or working on the go.
The app supports group audio and video calls with up to 32 participants, plus seamless use of both the front and rear iPad cameras. Screen sharing is also available, making it easy to collaborate or present while chatting. These upgrades make WhatsApp on iPad a fully functional communication tool for business meetings, virtual hangouts, and even long-distance family connections.
With its dual-pane interface and native iPad design, the app feels right at home alongside other Apple apps. It allows for smooth message navigation, instant switching between conversations, and better content visibility. The app eliminates the clunky experience of using the web version, finally making WhatsApp a true iPad-ready platform.
Back in 2022, WhatsApp’s head Will Cathcart acknowledged the high demand for an iPad version and hinted at future development. Earlier this week, WhatsApp’s official X account teased its release with a subtle emoji, followed by an unannounced drop on the App Store. While Instagram for iPad remains missing, this rollout suggests Meta is finally prioritizing iPad-native experiences better late than never.
