Victor Vescovo, the Texas-based explorer and venture capitalist, has conquered many of the most inhospitable and distant frontiers on this planet and beyond. His remarkable achievements, from mountains, ocean, and to space, have demanded a mix of pioneering spirit, innovation, and unwavering attention to detail. The very same values he has trusted in the OMEGA timepieces he wears.
OMEGA has been making revolutionary divers’ watches since 1932. At the beginning of his Five Deeps Expedition to the bottom of all five of the world’s oceans in 2019, Victor approached OMEGA, believing it to be the best possible watchmaker to accompany his bold journey – considering the Swiss brand’s own renowned heritage in the realms of lunar and deep-sea exploration.
In response, OMEGA created the Seamaster Planet Ocean Ultra Deep Professional timepiece, which pushed dive watch technology to unprecedented standards of excellence. Developing a professional divers’ watch is all in a day’s work for OMEGA. However, creating a timepiece capable of performing in the most extreme and pressurized conditions on Earth required an entirely new level of ingenuity and teamwork.
The success of the resulting design was unquestionable.
In May 2019, Victor piloted the deep-submergence vehicle Limiting Factor to the bottom of Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench, reaching a record-breaking depth of 10,935 m (35,876 ft). Attached externally to the submersible or accompanying lander, was not one but three of OMEGA’s depth-defying Ultra Deep timepieces*, performing perfectly under such extraordinary pressure.
This was only the beginning of the journey.
Since then, the timepiece has traced a quietly extraordinary path across the planet. It has returned to Challenger Deep a record eleven times and is the only timepiece to have done it more than once.
The timepiece – serial number X2 of three (X1-X3) – personally now belonging to Vescovo, has accompanied an expedition to the summit of Mount Everest. In 2025, it joined one of the world’s most accomplished modern mountaineers, Garrett Madison, to the summit of Mount Everest on May 23rd during his 15th Everest summit.
It has also travelled beyond the Earth’s atmosphere on missions with Blue Origin. First, with Victor Vescovo aboard Blue Origin’s NS-21 mission on June 4th, 2022, travelling within the pressurised capsule to an altitude of 351,815 feet (approximately 66.5 miles above Earth) and then again on the New Shepard-37 mission on December 20th, 2025, mounted externally to the booster rocket and exposed to the vacuum of space, reaching over 350,000 feet (approximately 66 miles above Earth).
No object – except the “Ultra Deep Professional X2” -- has been documented to have operated at both the deepest point of the ocean, the highest terrestrial place on Earth, and into space. Fewer still have done so repeatedly.
Victor Vescovo said: “When I first approached OMEGA, I knew they had a long history of producing exceptional dive watches. What we were asking for here, however, was something altogether different - a timepiece that could operate reliably in the deepest ocean trenches. I have since taken the watch to the most extreme and far-flung places on - and off - the planet. No other timepiece, remotely, has this extraordinary provenance.”
President and CEO of OMEGA, Raynald Aeschlimann, said, “Victor Vescovo is an inspirational figure in the world of exploration. His pioneering spirit is so closely aligned with OMEGA, we were determined to create a watch that could match his ambitious goals. The Ultra Deep was built as a continuation of our trailblazing legacy, not only for an ocean world record, but for all those adventurers who follow. Through Victor’s achievements, the Ultra Deep has now been adapted and rolled out across our collections, available to all those who seek to reach new limits.”
While pushing boundaries, the Seamaster Planet Ocean Ultra Deep Professional X2 remains firmly rooted in OMEGA’s rich ocean heritage, retaining the signature aesthetics and reliability that have made the Seamaster an icon in professional diving and extreme exploration.
