Red Eyes Glows After Dark in a Swiss Watch Made for One Collector

  • How did MOTOMICHI’s Red Eyes move from large projections to a luxury watch?
  • Why did Schaefer & Companions choose Cannes for its artistic debut?
  • How much does the Solune Grand Art MOTOMICHI – Red Eyes Edition cost?

Blurring the line between luxury watchmaking and contemporary art, the Solune Grand Art MOTOMICHI – Red Eyes Edition transforms a familiar digital artwork into something designed for the wrist. Created by Schaefer & Companions in collaboration with artist MOTOMICHI and artisan André Martinez, the unique timepiece combines Swiss watchmaking traditions with hand-painted details and an eye-catching glow after dark.

Digital Art Meets Traditional Craftsmanship

Digital Art Meets Traditional Craftsmanship

Known for appearing across animated projections on buildings, landscapes, and everyday objects, MOTOMICHI’s signature Red Eyes have traditionally existed on a much larger scale. The collaboration with Schaefer & Companions takes that recognizable visual language and shrinks it into the intimate proportions of a watch dial.

Rather than simply printing the artwork, artisan André Martinez individually micro-painted each eye, bringing traditional craftsmanship into a distinctly contemporary design. Super-LumiNova paint adds another dimension, allowing the eyes to glow when the surrounding light fades.

Creating an especially dramatic effect at night, the black dial and case visually disappear into the darkness while the illuminated eyes appear to float on the wrist. The approach turns the temporary character of digital projections into a permanent physical creation that combines art, mechanics, and craftsmanship.

Making its first official public appearance at La Scène des Artistes in Cannes, the Red Eyes Edition debuted during MOTOMICHI’s Friends with the Monster exhibition. The setting reflects the unusual character of the project, positioning the watch as more than a conventional luxury accessory.

Bringing contemporary art and independent watchmaking into the same space, the presentation allows collectors and visitors to experience the timepiece within an artistic environment rather than a traditional watch boutique.

Matching this approach, La Scène des Artistes promotes a vision centered around transparency, authenticity, and accessibility. The collaboration therefore creates a natural connection between the gallery and the watch, presenting Red Eyes as a wearable artwork shaped by several creative disciplines.

One Watch for One Collector

One Watch for One Collector

Adding significantly to its exclusivity, Schaefer & Companions has created only one Solune Grand Art MOTOMICHI – Red Eyes Edition. Unlike a conventional limited edition produced in small numbers, this watch will belong to just one collector.

Offering the piece temporarily through La Scène des Artistes in Cannes, the brand has priced the watch at €4,800 including taxes. Following its Cannes presentation, the timepiece is expected to become available through the Schaefer & Companions online boutique if it remains unsold.

Making the watch especially appealing to collectors, its value goes beyond exclusivity alone. The piece represents the physical result of a collaboration between MOTOMICHI, André Martinez, and an independent watchmaking Maison, giving its future owner a wearable artwork with a story that cannot simply be reproduced.
