Men don’t talk about skincare. Not really. It’s one of those things that gets pushed aside like flossing or stretching after the gym you know it matters but somehow it never happens. And sunscreen? Forget it. Most guys think it’s for the beach, or maybe for kids. Which is crazy because skin takes a beating every single day, not just on vacation.
The basics though. Sunscreen protects. Period. Dark suit, white shirt, polished shoes that’s the recipe for dressing up. Sunscreen, moisturizer, cleanser that’s the recipe for skin. And yet men complicate it, or worse, ignore it. Honestly, it’s two minutes of effort. A dab on the face, neck, ears. Done. But then the excuses creep in it feels greasy, it smells weird, I’ll just stay in the shade. Shade doesn’t block UV rays, by the way.
Funny enough, sunscreen isn’t just about cancer (though yeah, that’s the serious part). It’s about not looking 10 years older than you are. Wrinkles, dark spots, uneven texture they creep in slowly, and one day you catch yourself in a mirror and think, when did that happen? You know the answer. No sunscreen. No protection. And the skin, well, it remembers every time you skipped.
Choosing one? Doesn’t need to be complicated. Broad spectrum, SPF 30 or more. Water-resistant if you’re sweating. Non-comedogenic if you’re worried about breakouts. That’s it. (I once used the same sunscreen for my face and body regretted it immediately, too thick, felt like wearing glue. So yeah, sometimes formulas matter.) Keep it by the toothbrush or in the car so you actually use it. Otherwise it just sits in a drawer, forgotten until next summer.
And skincare beyond sunscreen it’s not rocket science. Wash your face with something gentle. Moisturize, even if you think you don’t need it. Exfoliate now and then. That’s it. Three steps. Add sunscreen and suddenly you’ve got a routine. Not for vanity, not to be “that guy” with a shelf full of products. Just to look good, feel good, stay healthy.
Bottom line? Men overcomplicate or underthink it. Skin works for you 24/7 sun, wind, sweat, stress it takes it all. The least you can do? Protect it. A little sunscreen. A little care. Nothing fancy. And honestly, that’s all it takes to make a big difference.
