For those looking to explore Iceland in a week, the Ring Road is the perfect option. This road loops around Iceland’s central Highlands and passes through many stunning natural landmarks, from geothermal treasures and waterfalls to glaciers and lakes. A 7-day itinerary allows travelers to see many of Iceland's top attractions.
The trip begins in Reykjavik, Iceland’s vibrant capital. Visitors can explore the city and enjoy its cultural and historical landmarks, such as the Settlement Exhibition Museum, where they can learn about the early history of Iceland.
On day two, head inland to the Golden Circle. This route features ancient craters, active geysers, tiered waterfalls, and the culturally significant Þingvellir National Park.
Day three takes you south along the coast, where you can see icebergs on Diamond Beach and the remarkable sea stacks of Reynisfjara.
Following the coast to the east on day four, you’ll find narrow fjords and picturesque fishing villages. The volcanic landscape here is especially visible, with the colorful sands and geothermal mud pools of Námaskarð.
Day five is dedicated to Lake Mývatn, a vast wetland home to multiple bird species. Later, discover Akureyri, Iceland’s northern capital.
Heading back towards Reykjavik on day six, you can visit the stunning Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls, known for their subterranean water sources.
On the final day in Reykjavik, there’s time to explore the lava fields, tubes, and hot springs of the Reykjanes Peninsula. Alternatively, enjoy a relaxing soak in the celebrated Blue Lagoon before heading to the airport.
