Blessed with a rare Mediterranean-style climate, Jabal Al Akhdar is one of the few places in the Arabian Peninsula where olive trees thrive. The annual harvest has become a symbol of the region's rich agricultural heritage, with local producers crafting exceptional olive oils that reflect the unique character of the mountain landscape.

Throughout the festival, guests are invited to immerse themselves in the season through guided olive harvests, culinary experiences and cultural encounters. The celebration begins on Wednesday, 23 September, with an olive-inspired welcome at Al Shurfa, followed by an Italian and Spanish dinner prepared by Guest Chef Martín Aristondo from Spain's Basque Region.

Festival highlights include olive-picking competitions, the Olive & Olive Oil Souk showcasing local produce and artisan products, Spanish cooking classes overlooking the canyon at Diana's Point, and guided olive press tours and tastings led by Dr Ali Al Furqani. During the popular Olive Tales at Breakfast, guests will discover the stories, traditions and flavours behind the mountain's harvest through locally produced olive oils and regional delicacies.

Culinary experiences continue throughout the festival with Mediterranean-inspired dining celebrating the versatility of the olive. Guests can enjoy an Italian dinner at Bella Vista overlooking the dramatic canyon, while a vibrant market lunch offers tapas, artisan olive oils and seasonal mountain produce in an open-air setting surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of Jabal Al Akhdar.

Olive trees were introduced to Oman in the 1990s, with varieties from across the Mediterranean and beyond gradually taking root in the mountain’s unique climate. Today, the annual Olive Harvest Festival celebrates this remarkable agricultural journey, bringing guests closer to the people, traditions and craftsmanship behind one of Oman’s most treasured seasonal harvests.

Experiences start from OMR 10 per person for the Spanish cooking class, while selected lunches and dinners start from OMR 25 per person. Advance reservations are recommended, as selected experiences have limited availability.
