Some cars are simply too iconic to disappear, and the Citroen 2 CV is one of them. At the 2026 Paris Motor Show, the French automaker brought its legendary nameplate back into the spotlight with a new electric concept that combines classic styling with modern engineering.

Inspired by the original 1948 model, the Citroen 2 CV Concept focuses on lightweight construction, simplicity and affordability rather than unnecessary technology. More importantly, it previews a potential production model expected by 2028, with a target starting price of approximately 15,000 euros.

Lightweight Engineering With a Practical Purpose

Lightweight Engineering With a Practical Purpose

One of the biggest priorities behind the new Citroen 2 CV Concept is keeping the vehicle as light and mechanically simple as possible.

Measuring just 3.76 meters long, the concept targets a weight of around 1,000 kg. This lightweight approach could allow Citroen to install a smaller battery while maintaining enough driving range for everyday urban journeys.

The body also features flat exterior surfaces, simplified air intakes and bumpers that can be replaced independently of the main bodywork. These details are intended to make manufacturing more affordable while reducing repair costs.

The concept also anticipates future European E Car regulations, positioning the eventual production vehicle between the compact Ami and the larger C3.

Classic Design Meets Modern Electric Technology

The new concept preserves the unmistakable personality of the original 2 CV while introducing contemporary styling elements.

At the front, circular LED headlights sit separately from the bodywork, accompanied by a sculpted hood and integrated air intakes. The upright windshield, rounded fenders and curved roofline further reinforce its connection to the original model.

A manually operated folding fabric roof brings back the open air driving experience that helped make the classic 2 CV so memorable.

The concept also rides on 18 inch steel wheels inspired by the original design. Working with Michelin, Citroen has introduced digital tire technology capable of continuously monitoring tire condition and helping the vehicle adapt its behavior to changing driving conditions.

Inside, Citroen takes an unusual approach by removing the conventional dashboard and replacing it with a simple cylindrical structure.

This arrangement houses a distinctive single spoke steering wheel, simplified controls and an 8 inch interactive touchscreen featuring playful graphics.

Instead of a traditional center console, the cabin features a removable storage basket manufactured using 3D printing technology, combining wood with biological based plastic materials.

The seats feature colorful tartan upholstery inspired by the original 2 CV, while textured surfaces and soft door straps create a welcoming atmosphere.

There are also some entertaining details, including a tortoise symbol on the brake pedal and a rabbit on the accelerator. A detachable audio unit called Radioen can even be used outside the vehicle as a portable speaker.

Affordable Electric Mobility Could Return in 2028

Citroen aims to introduce a production vehicle inspired by the concept by 2028, with manufacturing planned in Europe and a target starting price of around 15,000 euros.

Detailed specifications for battery capacity, electric motor output and driving range have not yet been announced.

However, the direction is clear. Rather than chasing larger batteries, massive screens and increasingly complicated features, Citroen wants to demonstrate that affordable electric cars can still offer personality, comfort and practical engineering.

If the production version retains the charm and simplicity of this concept, the legendary 2 CV could once again become a symbol of accessible motoring, this time for the electric generation.
