Design & Light Dynamics

Rather than executing a basic white-over-red build, Helderburg Founder Paul Potratz incorporated light directly into the design language.

Light-Shifting Exterior: At first glance, the exterior presents a clean white finish. However, under direct sunlight, the custom Helderburg Pearl Metallic Paint appears crisp white, while shifting under tree canopies to pick up deep blues and greens. As the sun sets, the pearl softens into a warm, pronounced glow.

Interior Craftsmanship: The cabin trades bright crimson for a sophisticated, deep red and dark black leather combination. Custom hand-engraved metal accents—including a detailed steering wheel cap—offer subtle visual flourishes designed to be discovered over time.

Engineering & Performance

Unlike standard restomods that rely on reproduction bodies, non-original frames, or heavy gas V8 swaps, Vermeer is built on an original factory Defender featuring a rare VIN and limited-production options like factory power windows.

Helderburg preserved the original frame and numbers-matching 300Tdi turbo-diesel engine, which was extensively re-engineered in-house to deliver increased usable torque, daily drivability, and effortless highway cruising while preserving the truck's pedigree.

Fuel Efficiency: Delivers an estimated 28–32 mpg on its 15.5-gallon fuel tank (compared to 8–10 mpg typical of gas V8 swaps).

Braking System: Fitted with proprietary Aegis Helderburg performance brakes—featuring six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers paired with cross-drilled and slotted rotors.

Ride & Handling: Features progressive suspension geometry, custom glass, and comprehensive sound deadening engineered for stability at speeds of 70–80+ mph in extreme hot or cold climates.

Audio & Electronics: Equipped with a bespoke Helderburg sound system.

"The client gave me the inspiration, but eventually he stopped choosing colors and simply told me: 'Paul, you decide. I trust you,'" said Potratz. "When a client grants that level of trust, it allows us to show what complete vehicle re-engineering really looks like. We designed the engine dynamics, suspension geometry, custom glass, hand-engraved metalwork, and light-shifting paint to work as one living unit. Everything was designed to be discovered over time."
