McLaren Reveals New Logo as It Prepares for a New Era

26 Sep 2026
  • Where did McLaren get the inspiration for its new logo?
  • How will McLaren use its new visual identity?
  • Why is McLaren changing its identity now?

McLaren has introduced an evolved visual identity that looks toward the future while reaching deep into the history of founder Bruce McLaren.

The British performance brand revealed its new wordmark on September 22, 2026, bringing McLaren Automotive and McLaren Racing together under a more unified identity. The timing is significant, as McLaren prepares to expand beyond the two seat supercars that have defined much of its modern road car history.

The new McLaren wordmark takes inspiration from the sign that once appeared above the service station owned by Bruce McLaren parents, Les and Ruth McLaren, in Remuera, Auckland.

That location played an important role in the McLaren story. It was where a young Bruce worked on the car that would eventually take him to his first racing victory.

Rather than abandoning its past for a completely new identity, McLaren has reinterpreted those original letterforms with a cleaner and more contemporary appearance.

The familiar Speedmark also remains part of the brand identity, maintaining a visual connection with the McLaren designs that enthusiasts already recognize.

The updated branding is designed to create a stronger connection between McLaren Automotive and McLaren Racing.

That means customers and fans will increasingly see the same visual language across road cars, motorsport programs, digital platforms, merchandise and McLaren locations around the world.

Papaya remains an important McLaren color, while the brand has introduced a broader color palette inspired by important moments from its history. Historic symbols including the Speedy Kiwi and Heritage Shield also continue to play a role in the wider identity.

The recently revealed McL 6GT provides one of the first examples of how this renewed focus on McLaren heritage can influence both vehicle design and branding.

More Than Just a Logo Change

More Than Just a Logo Change

The updated branding arrives during a much larger transformation for McLaren.

McLaren Automotive has confirmed a 500 million pound investment program aimed at expanding its manufacturing and engineering operations in the United Kingdom.

More importantly for the future product lineup, McLaren has confirmed plans to move beyond its traditional two seat supercars with an upcoming performance SUV.

That represents a major change for a company closely associated with lightweight sports cars and mid engine supercars.

The new logo does not reveal exactly what future McLaren models will look like, but it arrives as the company prepares to broaden what the McLaren name can represent.

An upcoming performance SUV will introduce the brand to customers who need more practicality and passenger space without abandoning the performance focused character expected from McLaren.

Future expansion could also give McLaren greater freedom to explore new vehicle formats while maintaining a visual connection with its racing history.

This makes the updated identity more meaningful than a simple graphic redesign. McLaren is creating a brand image that can work across Formula 1 cars, supercars and an increasingly diverse road car portfolio.

McLaren could have chosen a completely futuristic identity to represent its next phase, but instead the company returned to the earliest chapters of the Bruce McLaren story.

The result connects a family service station in New Zealand with one of the most recognizable performance brands in the world today.

As McLaren prepares for new models, new manufacturing investments and its first performance SUV, the refreshed identity provides a visual link between where the company began and where it intends to go next.

The real test will come with the vehicles that follow. If McLaren can bring the performance, engineering character and emotional appeal of its supercars into more practical segments, the new logo could eventually represent one of the most important transformations in the history of the brand.
