The relationship began in Ian Flemings 1959 novel Goldfinger, where Bond drove an Aston Martin DB Mark III equipped with special modifications such as reinforced bumpers, tracking equipment and concealed storage for weapons.

When Goldfinger reached cinemas in 1964, filmmakers replaced the DB Mark III with the newer Aston Martin DB5. This became the first Aston Martin to appear in a James Bond movie and quickly developed into one of the most famous cars in film history.

The DB5 received several fictional gadgets created by Q Branch, including concealed machine guns, rotating number plates, a passenger ejector seat, a rear protective shield and systems capable of releasing smoke and oil.

The DB5 reflected many of the qualities associated with Bond himself. Its elegant shape communicated sophistication without appearing excessive, while its performance gave it the ability to transform instantly from a refined grand tourer into a convincing getaway car.

That contrast became central to its appeal. Bond could arrive at an exclusive hotel or casino in the DB5 and still use the same car during a high speed chase moments later.

Its British identity also strengthened the connection. Both Aston Martin and James Bond came to represent a particular image of British luxury built around confidence, restraint and performance rather than obvious extravagance.

The DB5 may be the most recognizable Bond car, but several other Aston Martin models have played important roles throughout the franchise.

The Aston Martin V8 Vantage appeared in The Living Daylights in 1987 and brought classic British muscle to Timothy Daltons version of Bond.

The DBS became an important part of the Daniel Craig era following its appearance in Casino Royale in 2006, presenting a more modern and aggressive interpretation of the traditional Bond Aston Martin.

The DB5 itself continued returning in later films, including Skyfall and No Time to Die, reinforcing its status as a permanent part of the 007 universe rather than simply a car from the 1960s.

The Bond connection transformed certain Aston Martin models into cultural objects as much as cars. For many enthusiasts, the DB5 is almost impossible to separate from the image of 007.

Aston Martin has embraced that history through special projects including the DB5 Goldfinger Continuation. These limited cars recreated several Bond inspired features while celebrating the original movie car and its place in popular culture.

The association has also contributed to the desirability of classic Aston Martin models among collectors. Cars with direct links to Bond productions can attract particularly strong attention due to their combination of automotive rarity and cinematic history.
