Mercedes AMG has officially unveiled the new 2028 AMG GT SUV, introducing its first full size SUV developed entirely by the performance division in Affalterbach. Built on the dedicated AMG.EA electric platform, the new model combines extreme power, innovative battery technology and the practicality of a luxury SUV.
With up to 1,153 hp, charging speeds reaching 710 kW and advanced suspension technology, the AMG GT SUV represents a major step in the future of electric performance. Three versions will be offered, each delivering a different combination of power, range and driving dynamics.
The new AMG GT SUV will be available in GT 53, GT 55 and GT 63 versions, all featuring electric all wheel drive.
The entry level GT 53 uses two electric motors producing 536 hp, with a two speed transmission on the rear axle designed to improve acceleration and highway efficiency.
The GT 55 introduces three advanced axial flux motors, increasing output to 805 hp. The flagship GT 63 takes performance even further with 1,153 hp and 1,475 lb ft of torque.
Mercedes claims the GT 63 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.4 seconds under its specified test conditions, bringing genuine supercar acceleration to a spacious luxury SUV.
One of the most impressive features of the new AMG GT SUV is its 800 volt electrical architecture, developed to support exceptional charging speeds and sustained performance.
The GT 53 features a 106 kWh battery supporting DC charging at up to 600 kW. Meanwhile, the GT 55 and GT 63 receive a larger 128 kWh battery capable of accepting up to 710 kW.
Under ideal charging conditions, the larger battery can recover up to 450 km of WLTP driving range in just 10 minutes. Charging from 10 percent to 80 percent can take approximately 12 minutes.
Maximum WLTP range reaches up to 700 km, depending on the version and configuration. Actual charging performance will depend on charger capability, battery temperature and other conditions.
Mercedes AMG has developed the new AMG Active Ride Control Plus suspension to deliver sports car handling without sacrificing everyday comfort.
The system replaces conventional anti roll bars with hydraulically interconnected adaptive dampers and air suspension. This allows the vehicle to actively reduce body roll during cornering and control forward pitching under heavy braking.
The GT 55 and GT 63 also feature advanced torque distribution between their rear electric motors, improving traction and cornering precision.
Drivers can further personalize vehicle behavior through the AMG Race Engineer controls, adjusting responsiveness, handling and traction to match their preferences.
Although the AMG GT SUV is fully electric, Mercedes has introduced an innovative driving experience designed to preserve the emotional character of its traditional performance cars.
The AMGFORCE Sport Plus system reproduces the distinctive sounds of AMG combustion engines, including the aggressive character of a V8 in the more powerful versions.
Simulated gear changes and synchronized seat vibrations create a more engaging connection between the driver and the electric powertrain.
The system responds dynamically to acceleration and driving inputs, allowing drivers to experience familiar AMG sensations without a conventional petrol engine.
The AMG GT SUV features a muscular exterior design with broad shoulders, an aggressive front grille and a sleek roofline.
Active aerodynamic elements, including an adjustable roof spoiler and electronically controlled front air intakes, help balance efficiency with high speed stability.
Inside, the driver focused cockpit features a 10.2 inch digital instrument display and a 14 inch central touchscreen. An additional 14 inch passenger display is available.
The latest MBUX system runs on the Mercedes Benz Operating System and integrates advanced artificial intelligence features.
A panoramic glass roof with adjustable transparency, customizable ambient lighting and extensive interior personalization options complete the premium experience.
The 2028 Mercedes AMG GT SUV is scheduled to reach dealerships in the United States during summer 2027, with pricing and availability for Middle Eastern markets yet to be confirmed.
By combining 1,153 hp, exceptionally rapid charging, advanced hydraulic suspension and simulated V8 driving sensations, Mercedes AMG is demonstrating how its performance heritage can evolve in the electric era.
The real question is whether these technologies can deliver the same excitement that enthusiasts expect from traditional AMG models.
