Volkswagen is bringing one of its most famous performance badges into a new era with the ID.3 GTI. The electric hot hatch replaces the previous ID.3 GTX and becomes the most powerful production model to wear the GTI badge.
The change is about more than a new name. Volkswagen is combining the familiar personality of its GTI models with rear wheel drive, strong electric performance and a redesigned interior that addresses some of the biggest criticisms of earlier ID models.
The ID.3 GTI produces 322 hp and 545 Nm of torque, giving it one more horsepower than the Golf GTI Edition 50.
Acceleration from zero to 100 kmh takes 5.6 seconds, while the maximum speed is electronically limited to 200 kmh.
More importantly, the ID.3 GTI becomes the first GTI with rear wheel drive. Its MEB based architecture places the electric motor at the rear, creating a fundamentally different driving layout from the front wheel drive GTI models that built the badge reputation.
A 79 kWh usable lithium ion battery provides an estimated WLTP driving range of up to 601 kilometers.
That figure gives the ID.3 GTI enough range to work as an everyday electric car rather than focusing exclusively on performance.
Volkswagen also supports DC fast charging at up to 183 kW. Under suitable conditions, charging from 10 percent to 80 percent takes around 29 minutes.
Volkswagen has given the ID.3 GTI a more aggressive appearance while retaining the familiar proportions of the electric hatchback.
A redesigned front bumper features prominent red detailing inspired by traditional GTI design cues. Dedicated 20 inch wheels further distinguish the performance model.
GTI badges appear on the front doors, while the rear receives additional model specific details that help separate the car from the standard ID.3.

The Volkswagen ID.3 GTI is expected to reach European markets in spring 2027. With 322 hp, rear wheel drive, up to 601 kilometers of WLTP range and a more user friendly interior, it represents one of the biggest changes yet for the GTI name and offers a preview of how Volkswagen plans to carry its performance heritage into the electric era.
