Xiaomi SkyNomad N90 Max Explorer Turns Camping Into Luxury

  • How does the SkyNomad N90 Max Explorer become a mobile living space?
  • What makes the SkyNomad Explorer roof different from a normal roof tent?
  • How far can the Xiaomi SkyNomad N90 Max Explorer travel?

Xiaomi is taking a very different approach to the luxury SUV with the SkyNomad N90 Max Explorer Edition. Instead of focusing only on screens, performance and passenger space, this special version turns the vehicle itself into a place to sleep, work and relax.

The Explorer Edition uses a five seat cabin rather than the seven seat layout of the regular N90 Max, creating space for an integrated sleeping area and an electrically operated roof cabin. It combines these camping features with a powerful range extender system and a claimed combined CLTC range of 1,688 kilometers.

The biggest change is found behind the front seats. The second row uses a split bench that can electrically fold into a flat sleeping area measuring around 1.87 meters by 1.24 meters.

Xiaomi also adds wood grain aluminum flooring with integrated heating. The system can warm the floor to around 38 degrees Celsius, making the cabin more comfortable during colder camping trips.

Storage has been designed around longer stays as well. A built in cabinet provides around 20 liters of capacity, while a vanity mirror, bedside table and power connections make the interior feel closer to a small studio than a conventional SUV.

The Explorer Edition comes with an electrically operated roof cabin integrated directly into the vehicle rather than relying on a separate aftermarket tent.

When raised, it creates an upper living area of roughly two square meters and increases the available standing height inside the vehicle to around 2.29 meters. The upper section can support up to 200 kilograms and includes its own lighting, climate control and charging connections.

This allows the vehicle to provide separate upper and lower rest areas, making it far more practical for couples, small families or travelers who want to spend nights away from hotels.

Long Range Electric Travel

The SkyNomad N90 Max Explorer uses a 76 kWh battery combined with a 1.5 liter turbocharged gasoline range extender.

Its front electric motor produces 210 kW, equivalent to around 282 hp, while the rear motor adds another 100 kW, or around 134 hp. Together, they create an all wheel drive system with a combined motor output of 310 kW.

The Explorer Edition offers a claimed pure electric CLTC range of 462 kilometers and a combined range of around 1,688 kilometers when the gasoline range extender is included. The standard N90 Max reaches as much as 1,705 kilometers, explaining why different range figures may appear depending on the version.

The N90 Max is still very much a modern Xiaomi vehicle underneath its camping focused design.

The cabin features a large 16.1 inch central display running Xiaomi HyperOS, while premium seating offers heating, ventilation, massage and zero gravity functions.

Advanced driving technology also plays a major role. Available hardware includes LiDAR, cameras, radar sensors and powerful computing designed to support highway and urban driving assistance as well as advanced parking functions.

The result is an SUV that combines digital convenience with features normally associated with purpose built recreational vehicles.

The SkyNomad N90 Max Explorer Edition is priced at 299,900 yuan in China, which is roughly 44,100 dollars through direct currency conversion. The standard N90 Max starts at 269,900 yuan, while the smaller N70 range begins at 209,900 yuan.

That pricing makes the Explorer Edition particularly interesting because it combines the capabilities of a large luxury SUV with features that could reduce the need for a separate camper or rooftop camping setup.

For drivers who enjoy road trips and outdoor escapes but still want premium comfort and modern technology, the SkyNomad N90 Max Explorer presents one of the most unusual new SUV concepts from China. Explore the wider SkyNomad range and compare its camping features, driving range and price with traditional luxury SUVs to see whether this mobile living concept could change the way you travel.
